Working in partnership with Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to complete a bike shelter installation. We delivered a series of high-quality cycle storage solutions designed to promote sustainable travel and provide secure facilities for staff and visitors.
As part of the project, our team designed and installed a Mesh-Clad Cycle Store fitted with Semi-Vertical Cycle Racks, each offering three locking points to maximise security. Within the allocated footprint, we successfully accommodated 22 secure cycle parking spaces, ensuring efficient use of the available area without compromising accessibility.
We installed a Public Bike Repair Stand equipped with an integrated pump, creating a practical and user-friendly cycle hub for daily commuters. The mesh-clad shelter is both galvanised and powder coated, delivering long-lasting durability while allowing natural light to pass through to adjacent building windows, maintaining an attractive and unobtrusive appearance.
For added safety and convenience, a solar-powered PIR LED light was fitted to improve visibility during low-light conditions, enhancing both security and user confidence.
This project demonstrates our ability to provide robust, visually appealing and space-efficient cycle storage solutions, that support organisations in encouraging greener, more sustainable transport options with added security.
Good end-of-journey facilities for cyclists provide significant value not only for cyclists themselves but also for build-to-rent landlords. As cycling becomes more popular, especially in urban areas, having secure and well-designed facilities can enhance the appeal of rental properties, support sustainability goals, and create a more attractive living environment for tenants. Here’s why these facilities are important:
1. Attracting Tenants Who Cycle
Catering to a Growing Market: Many people, particularly in urban areas, are choosing cycling as their primary mode of transport due to rising fuel costs, environmental awareness, and the health benefits of cycling. By offering high-quality bike parking and related amenities, build-to-rent landlords can attract a demographic of renters who value sustainable and active transport options.
Increased Tenant Satisfaction: Tenants who cycle or are considering cycling will appreciate secure and accessible bike storage. Providing well-thought-out end-of-journey facilities creates a positive living experience, increasing tenant satisfaction and the likelihood of lease renewals.
2. Enhancing Property Value and Appeal
Meeting Modern Living Standards: Secure bike storage, repair stations, and additional amenities like showers or lockers are becoming increasingly expected in modern rental developments, especially in cities. Properties that offer these facilities stand out in the rental market, attracting a wider pool of prospective tenants, including environmentally-conscious individuals and those who prefer active lifestyles.
Sustainability Credentials: Providing secure cycling facilities demonstrates a landlord’s commitment to sustainability and greener living. This can improve the overall perception of the property and attract tenants who are mindful of reducing their carbon footprint, enhancing the property’s reputation as a forward-thinking, eco-friendly development.
3. Improving Security and Convenience
Preventing Bike Theft: High-quality end-of-journey facilities with secure bike storage, such as dedicated rooms, lockers, or enclosed bike shelters, help prevent bike theft and vandalism. This security is crucial, as many modern bikes are expensive, and tenants need reassurance that their property is protected. Offering safe storage solutions can enhance the overall security appeal of the building.
Convenient Access: Conveniently located, accessible bike storage ensures that tenants can easily park their bikes without navigating through difficult areas or carrying them up stairs. When these facilities are designed with the user in mind, it adds to the overall convenience of living in the property.
4. Supporting Health and Well-being
Promoting Active Lifestyles: With the UK government and health organisations encouraging active lifestyles to combat issues like obesity and mental health challenges, cycling has become a key element of a healthier, more active lifestyle. End-of-journey facilities, like bike racks, showers, and changing rooms, encourage tenants to cycle to work, social events, or for leisure, fostering a healthier living environment within the development.
Enhancing Well-being: Cycling is not only good for physical health but also for mental well-being, helping tenants reduce stress and anxiety. Landlords that support this lifestyle by providing the necessary facilities contribute to the overall quality of life in their properties.
5. Reducing Pressure on Car Parking and Urban Space
Maximising Space Efficiency: Secure bike storage takes up far less space than car parking, which is especially valuable in densely populated urban areas where space is at a premium. By offering excellent bike facilities, landlords can reduce the need for expensive car parking spaces and reallocate that space for other amenities like communal areas, green spaces, or additional housing.
Lower Car Dependency: Encouraging cycling reduces the pressure on parking infrastructure and car-related congestion. Tenants who choose cycling over driving help reduce traffic in and around the development, making the area more pleasant and reducing noise pollution.
6. Supporting Environmental and ESG Goals
Aligning with Sustainability Initiatives: Many build-to-rent landlords are under increasing pressure to meet environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. Providing secure and accessible cycling facilities helps landlords support their sustainability goals by promoting a low-carbon transport option. This can be a key selling point for environmentally-conscious tenants and investors alike.
Contributing to Green Certifications: Developments that offer secure bike storage and other cycling amenities may be eligible for green building certifications such as BREEAM or LEED. These certifications can increase the attractiveness and market value of the property, appealing to both tenants and investors looking for eco-friendly and sustainable living options.
7. Long-Term Tenant Retention
Creating a Community-Friendly Environment: Secure end-of-journey facilities are part of creating a tenant-friendly environment that fosters community engagement. With more people cycling, landlords can organise cycling events or maintenance workshops, strengthening community bonds within the development and encouraging longer tenancies.
Improving Retention Rates: Tenants who feel their lifestyle needs are supported, including secure bike storage, are more likely to stay long-term. By offering these facilities, landlords can build loyalty and reduce turnover, leading to more stable rental income and less time spent filling vacancies.
Conclusion: A Smart Investment for Build-to-Rent Landlords
For build-to-rent landlords, providing secure end-of-journey facilities is a valuable investment. These facilities attract tenants who cycle, support healthier and greener living, and enhance the property’s appeal in a competitive rental market. By offering secure, convenient, and well-designed bike storage, landlords not only improve the tenant experience but also align with sustainability goals, increase property value, and promote long-term tenant retention.
Jet2.com approached us to replace their old cycle store with a new, secure solution. We provided groundworks and installed a 10-space welded mesh-clad shelter, galvanised and powder-coated in their corporate colours. The shelter includes a deep design, a single access gate with a self-closing mechanism, and a digit combination latch lock for added security. We also powder-coated the Sheffield cycle racks. This secure cycle store installation encourages sustainable commuting and aligns with Jet2.com’s brand identity, providing staff with a safe and convenient bike storage solution.
The Old Airfield in Suffolk is now home to a large warehouse storage facility. We were approached by the client to provide a cycle storage solution to house up to 48 bikes for the staff.
The clients requirements for this particular project were to maximise the amount of bike spaces within the budget and designated area. By utilising space saving semi-vertical cycle racks and our Marina Mesh Compound for the bike shelter, we were able to maintain a compact footprint and cost effective solution. All products used were galvanised, minimising any maintenance requirements.
As part of the project, we provided drawings to the client for approval, showing both plan view and 3d CAD schematics of the construction.
The project was supplied and installed over a 3 day period by our in house team.
Our team worked with a housing developer for a project based on Musketeer Avon Road, Kidderminster. Secure Cycle Store offered a simple solution to the client’s requirements.
The Walton Centre in Liverpool required a site survey to create secure bike storage for its staff. Working with the NHS Aintree Hospital, we identified the correct location and products for their requirements.
Our 10-space Trinity Timber Clad Cycle Shelter was the chosen product. Galvanised and powder coated frame finish with PAR-treated hit and miss timber cladding, with integrated cycle hoops as part of the shelter, securing the bikes.
The final finish had achieved all expectations.
Following a website enquiry from our client, Valley Industrial Estate, they specified our Greasby Bike Shelter from the website. After the quotation, delivery and installation dates were agreed and the purchase was made.
Secure Cycle Store supplied and installed the Greasby Shelters on-site as per the customers’ request. when asked the reason the customer chose the Greasby Bike Shelters, was for its clean and clear view of the bicycles when they were in the store. In a Galvanised finish the Greasby shelter is low maintenance and aesthetically pleasing in its industrial environment.
